The Thread That Weaves 

The official beginning date of my online "The Thread That Weaves" workshop is January 2nd, 2013 and registration will be open until January 10. I decided to keep the price at $100.00, the early registration price.

I have been busy making sure that every part of this workshop is going to be an incredible experience for my students, who come from all over the world... Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. I can already feel their passion and creativity even though they are so far away!

Here are some brand new photographs to intice you, this is part of the book I made during the demonstrations on the videos my students will be viewing.

Just one of the most wonderful things about these books is that you can open them so that any page is spotlighted in the front.

Another thing that I love is how there are surprises underneath and behind other pages.

And the use of threads and fabric add so many tactile qualities.

Recently I joined the Southern Oregon Artist Registry, SOAR, and you can read my article that I wrote for them here. I am so excited and honoured to be a part of this wonderful organization!

I also will be teaching a workshop "Land, Water and Sky" in southern Oregon at the Rogue Gallery Art Center in Medford on Saturday, January 19th, and you can read all about it and register here!  Join me at this workshop and I will guide you in creating mixed medial landscapes and collages that you will love.

There are so many ways to have the artist inside of you nurtured, and one of the most important ways is from friends.  I love all my friends, and I have to say that the ones I have met online have been there since I first started blogging have touched my soul, nurtured me and helped me feel connected to the world of art.

I have been thinking the last few weeks of how much in my art is stitched, wrapped or tied.  

And I've been making a lot of art, and somehow while I've been deep in my own world winter has come.

And I thought it would be fun to bundle and tie things together, and to photograph them on different surfaces, and then to challenge you to do the same.

For me, looking at my treasures and my world in a different perspective is always so refreshing.  

And through the eye of my camera new textures are born.

New details are revealed.

Through the eyes of my camera even a piece of twine can be beautiful.

Stones and beads, shells and leaves and pine needles.

My challenge to you is to create your own post of things that are stitched, wrapped, tied or bundled, comment here and email me the link and I will post the link here on my blog. 

And as the snow pours down today, on this birthday of my daughter, I imagine wrapping my arms around her.  I remember how when she was little how I would bundle her up into her pink snow suit, and her flash of red hair would dart this way and that across the snowy lawn.

Mothers and fathers bundle their children up every winter, kiss their cold cheeks, pull up their mittens. 

This is a sad day for America.  My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost their beautiful children or loved ones yesterday.  And to all of the lives that will be forever changed.  

January On-Line Workshop, The Thread That Weaves

Registration is now officially open for my January on-line workshop!!!  I cannot tell you how excited I am about this chance to share "The Thread That Weaves" with even more artists that I may not have been able to work with in a "live" workshop!

 

For the last few months I have been teaching workshops around the Pacific Northwest where I guided my students in the creation of their own beautiful and unique artist book.

 I learned so many techniques while attending Roxanne's workshop "The Thread That Weaves.". The techniques gave me know how and inspiration that will find it's way into my future books and art work. The extra special and unexpected treat was the heartfelt, deep down, and thought provoking that Roxanne shared. Each one of us walked away touched and a bit different than when we arrived to begin 'making our books' that turned into a journey of expression.
