In this new painting I wanted to create a picture using warm, thick colors like an image from an old tapestry. I used mainly acrylic but finished off with some Rich Translucents from Mayco. A glaze that I love to use is Transparent Red Iron Oxide by M.Graham and Co.
Because it was my birthday and mothers day this week I received many flowers! A bouquet of yellow tulips is in my Art Room at school, my daughter had them delivered and made my day. The sunflowers are from my son and husband. Here they won't flower until late summer.
Today I stayed home sick, nothing bad, just a medical appointment for a shot. This morning I was awakened by the call of a morning dove. I found myself aimlessly wandering around the gardens. My son was at school and my husband at work. No doubt about it, I thought, spring was really here. Tiny buds leafs were spurting out from otherwise bare branches. Yellow maple flowers covered the brick courtyard, and fallen pussy willow buds were covering the curved brick pathway that I made myself. A breeze filled the air and the sky is a soft blue. I was reminded of the more simple days of summer. Here are more images of today...
Today was a beautiful day. My husband and son and I worked outside together. Every year on Mother's Day we do this, and I love the extra help. We spread bark mulch and pea gravel, trimmed trees and bushes, mulched old leaves into the grass and cleaned out flower beds. The lacy pear tree is blooming and the plum tree out front is pink and frothy. I had a sweet phone call from my daughter. Sun shines through a cold breeze.
Amanda and Christopher, you have filled me with joy in the deepest parts of my heart.
Happy Mothers Day to mothers everywhere.
A Saturday in May. I wanted to share these photographs before my very late morning shower and before I start my artwork. I think the pictures speak for themselves, three still lives with lavender tulips. The petals are from ones that already bloomed and these are the last... Here they are in a maple cabinet that was a gift from my mother and was in all of our homes growing up. Favorite books from the present to back in high school. A folded lavender dress that my mother made me when I was little. So many memories.
And here are the tulips on my dresser. Behind them is the original acrylic painting of my daughter, which I used in "Amanda's Hope" shown in an earlier post. A Saturday in May...
